Partry will be Wheelin’ in the Years on Heritage Day

Heritage Day has been a major part of the calendar in Partry for some time now and 2017 promises something for everyone. Partry Heritage and Family Fun Day will take place on Sunday, August 27, from 1pm at Partry Athletic FC Grounds. It will be a fabulous day for the whole family, with arts and crafts demonstrations, vintage displays, bouncy castle, face-painting, pony and trap rides, fancy dress, music and dancing and so much more.

Mayo’s Atlantic Rhythm musicians and dancers to feature at Italian Folk Festival

Some of Mayo’s finest traditional Irish musicians and dancers will enjoy a unique opportunity to represent their county and country abroad in early September, as seven members of the Atlantic Rhythm Productions group have been selected to travel to Blessano, Italy, to perform in the prestigious Danzerini Udinesi Folk Festival from September 1 to 4.

With just five weeks to go, planning for Ballina Salmon Festival is well under way with a packed programme of family-friendly events confirmed for Mayo’s largest community festival. Now in its 53rd year, the 2017 festival runs for three additional days, from Sunday, July 9, to Sunday, July 16, and will bring the streets alive with street theatre, live music, food, heritage, sports, and exhibitions.

Bonamh Market cancelled as mark of respect to the late Ann Moran

The Bonamh Market and Heritage Day that had been planned to take place this coming Saturday has been cancelled as a mark of respect to the well known Moran family, from Rush Street, Castlebar, following the the death of Ann Moran who died peacefully on Monday. Ann together with her husband John ran the well known Paddy Moran's pub on Rush Street.

Swinford gears up for Síamsa Sráide

The official opening of Síamsa Sráide will be performed by Ciarán Staunton from New York and recipient of the Michael Davitt Award Mayo for his work on behalf of Irish emigrants abroad. Mr Staunton will highlight the nightmare of the Undocumented Irish in America, Australia, etc, as well as highlighting the negative issues that many experience when they return. This opening is in recognition of the importance of our diaspora in promoting tourism in this area.

Five hundred performers set to join in MMTradfest in Ballina

More than 500 Irish musicians, singers, and dancers are expected to take over the numerous venues in Ballina and its surrounding towns for the six day Mayo Manchester Tradfest. The week-long family friendly festival will feature a whole host of award winning performers involved in 10 key events and a further 60 fringe events, and is expected to attract some 50,000 visitors. The unique celebration featuring performers from Mayo and Manchester is launched on Friday July 29 with a special live two hour radio broadcast by Midwest Radio from Bar Square in Ballina. The free event will feature a host of VIPs and performers and runs from 6pm to 8pm.
